About the Hotel

Set by the River Taw, the Imperial Hotel is the leading luxury hotel in Barnstaple and the surrounding North Devon area. As you approach and see the Imperial in its imposing riverside location, you will be struck by its grandeur and style.

With its sweeping oak staircase, spacious lounge and lavish soft furnishings, the Imperial invites you to relax in an atmosphere of elegance and comfort.

The Imperial Hotel captures the magic and atmosphere of classic country houses. There are some lovely National Trust properties in Devon such as nearby Arlington Court and they have helped inspire the decor and style of this luxury hotel. One particularly charming feature is the collection of original paintings by local artists which depict the glory of Exmoor and North Devon. And you are sure to love the distinctive ambience of the Colours Bar, which includes fascinating military memorabilia, such as a bugle from the Charge of the Light Brigade.

The Imperial Hotel is a Grade 2 Listed building and it has been a hotel since 1898. Many character features have been preserved, including the ornamental ironwork balconies and the bay windows.

This classical heritage has now been combined with a fresh contemporary style in the bedrooms and the modern bathrooms. Each of the bedrooms has its own distinctive style, some with neutral colours, some using dramatic splashes of gold, silver or turquoise.

With luxury accommodation, exceptional service, lovely river views and delicious cuisine, The Imperial combines everything you need for a memorable luxury holiday, short break, conference or event in North Devon.
